What AURA is and what it solves

What a continuity playout is for, and what AURA does that a video player does not.

AURA is broadcast continuity software: it decides what your channel shows in every second of the day, puts it to air without gaps, and keeps a record of what went out.

How it differs from a video player

Anyone can queue videos. A television channel needs rather more:

The pieces

PieceWhat it does
RundownWhat airs and in what order, with calculated start and end times
LibraryAll your material indexed, with metadata: category, trim, validity dates
ContinuityBumpers, idents and ad breaks between programmes
GraphicsChannel bug, lower thirds, age rating, subtitles
OutputsSDI by card, streaming, IP transport, NDI
AutomationBuilds the schedule by itself, following a pattern

Two channels at once

AURA can run two independent channels on the same machine, each with its own rundown, advertising, bug and output. They share the library and the graphics, which is exactly what saves work when you run two sister channels.

If you only need one, the single-channel licence costs less. You can extend later without reinstalling anything.
