NDI sends video over the local network, with no cards and no video cables. It is the convenient way to get the signal to another machine in the building.
What it is used for
- Feeding the channel into a switcher (vMix, OBS, TriCaster) as one more source
- Watching programme on a monitor in another room
- Sending the signal to a graphics or streaming machine
Turning it on
Per channel, under OUTPUTS → NDI Out. Switch it on and it appears on the network under the channel name; any compatible application will find it by itself.
What to know
NDI uses a lot of network bandwidth. In Full HD that is tens of megabits per second per channel. On gigabit there is no problem; over Wi-Fi, do not attempt it.
The bottom bar shows the NDI cadence and how many clients are connected. If the cadence looks unstable, look at the network before you look at the software.
